Oman splits into two worlds: the fjords of Musandam (crewed trips out of Khasab) and the Daymaniyat coast near Muscat. October-April is the comfortable season with clear skies and settled winds; the summer monsoon ('khareef') affects Salalah in the south rather than the northern charter bases.

Anchorages & Must-Do
- Hvar Town — Lavender, vineyards, Fortica fortress
- Vis (Stiniva Beach) — Narrow cove; voted best beach in Europe
- Korčula Old Town — Mini-Dubrovnik; Marco Polo birthplace
- Pakleni Islands (Hvar) — Laze Palmižana; Carpe Diem beach
- Mljet National Park — Salt-water lakes; tranquil
- Musandam fjords — Dramatic khors - Middle East's own fjord country, dolphins year-round
- Daymaniyat Islands — Nine protected islets off Muscat; turtles nest and coral is pristine
- Sur & Ras al Jinz — Eastern point where green turtles nest - visit after a dawn sail
Which Should You Choose?
Both work for first-timers. The default choice for the industry is BVI; choose that unless you have specific reasons to prefer Croatia or Oman.
Choose Oman. Warmer water year-round (often 75–85°F), palm-fringed anchorages.
Choose Croatia. Mediterranean culture, history, cuisine, wines.
Captain's Take
"Hvar town in July-August is wall-to-wall superyachts — beautiful to look at, hard to find a mooring. Avoid the ACI marina on Saturday nights (changeover day). For quieter evenings, sail east to the Pakleni Islands (Laze Palmižana, Borče) or south to Vis (Stiniva, Komiža). The Kornati Islands north of Šibenik are far less crowded — a true wild Dalmatia experience. Try one-way Split-Dubrovnik; sail south for 7 days with prevailing NW winds at your stern."
"Musandam is the sleeper hit of the Gulf - sheer khors that look like Norway crossed with the desert. Sail out of Khasab at first light when the water is glass and the dolphins come to the bow. The Daymaniyat Islands off Muscat are the opposite: easy weekend sailing with the best snorkelling in Oman. Pair both if you have 10+ days; most charters fly into Muscat and reposition."
