Which Should You Choose?
Both work for first-timers. The default choice for the industry is BVI; choose that unless you have specific reasons to prefer Croatia or Martinique.
Choose Martinique. Warmer water year-round (often 75–85°F), palm-fringed anchorages.
Choose Croatia. Mediterranean culture, history, cuisine, wines.
Captain's Take
"Hvar town in July-August is wall-to-wall superyachts — beautiful to look at, hard to find a mooring. Avoid the ACI marina on Saturday nights (changeover day). For quieter evenings, sail east to the Pakleni Islands (Laze Palmižana, Borče) or south to Vis (Stiniva, Komiža). The Kornati Islands north of Šibenik are far less crowded — a true wild Dalmatia experience. Try one-way Split-Dubrovnik; sail south for 7 days with prevailing NW winds at your stern."
