Mid-March to early April is the BVI's busiest window. To enjoy great weather without peak-season crowds, try late November or late April. Norman Island's The Caves are nearly empty after 4 PM — the afternoon light through the cave openings is the best for snorkeling. Cooper Island Beach Club's full rum bar (260+ labels) is a slow weekday afternoon treat; weekends can have 50+ boats anchored. If you want a private beach day, Great Tobago or Sandy Spit are your best bets and only accessible by boat.

What Our Captains Say
In peak season, popular BVI bays (The Baths, Norman Island, Jost Van Dyke) get full moorings by 2 PM. Plan to arrive before 11 AM or after 4 PM. Most National Parks Trust moorings are $25-30/night — the dinghy dock at the closest bar is the true secret. Beware that most BVI bays have no shore access at night — drop anchor in 30+ feet of water with sand (not coral) bottom. The Bight at Norman Island can be rolly; opt for the eastern side or Benures Bay for quieter nights.
If you only have 7 days and want both sides, base yourself in St Thomas (USVI) and day-sail to BVI. The USVI has easier entry (US citizens no passport needed) and reliable provisioning in Red Hook or Yacht Haven. The BVI has better-protected anchorages, smaller distances between islands, and the iconic spots (Baths, Norman Island). Most of our guests do 3-4 days USVI + 3-4 days BVI; this works well from Christmas to April when seas are calm.
