BRIEF
HISTORY |
(Updated
18-Oct-2005)
The owners, a family of husband and wife and two children
age 3 and 4 ½ at the time - opted to go on a 2-3 year
sailing ‘sabbatical' with Jabulo. For this purpose they
purchased the Dean 44. The yacht was built in Cape Town by
Dean Catamarans. Build started in May 2002, and launched
23rd October 2002. The commissioning was completed
mid-December 2002.
They left Cape Town on 25th January 2003, and sailed to
Atlantic Ocean islands of St Helena, Ascension, then Brazil.
From Brazil they sailed NW to Barbados and from there spent
next few months cruising the windward islands south to
Tobago and Trinidad. The months of July - October were spent
in Trinidad. They hauled the boat in Trinidad, and apart
from normal maintenance such as new bottom painting, they
also had several additional additions/enhancements done to
the vessel.
In November 2003, Jabulo sailed west to Venezuela and its
offshore islands, then ABC islands. From here they sailed NW
to Cuba (Santiago), and cruised the entire southern coast
from east to west for several months. From there sailed to
Mexico, then Belize and its offshore atolls (May 2004).
The owners intention is to conclude the sabbatical from
sometime end of 2004, sell Jabulo and return home.
The vessel has been meticulously maintained and serviced,
and expense has not been spared to ensure that she is in
excellent offshore condition at all times. Jabulo has proven
herself to be a strong cruiser with good all-round
performance, and yet with space, volume and load carrying
capacity greater than many other cats in her class.
She is a CE certified vessel, and in addition an independent
surveyor was commissioned by the new owners to oversee and
report on the manufacturing of the vessel.
It goes without saying that her condition and specification
and spares holding makes her immediately blue-ocean voyage
ready.
NOTE*:
Jabulo was hauled in October 2005, where the bottom was
repainted with antifouling (International Biolux), the
anodes were replaced, and saildrive legs and grounding
plates cleaned. She is now also imported into USA.
