LAYOUT & ACCOMMODATIONS: The Shearwater has enhanced the Voyage Owner's version by adding additional hanging lockers, shelving, and storage. A Splendide washer/dryer has been added to the owner's head - behind the Voyage-provided vanity mirror. The ideal location with no loss of usable space. A very large set of storage access doors have been installed in the owner's head to gain excellent access to the "sea berth" for parts and storage. Added locker doors, shelves, and a generous computer locker have been added using Voyage components and blend perfectly with the original layout.ELECTRONICS & NAVIGATION: The Shearwater is equipped with RayMarine wind, depth, speed/log, and autopilot. These are coupled with an integrated computer and RayMarine GPS to provide electronic navigation, true and apparent speed/log, and visual route planning with the Cap'n software, Visual Passage Planner, and two-way integration of the RayMarine and computer instruments. Licensed charts are provided for much of the East Coast, Bahamas, and Islands. Additional instrumentation includes an Interphase side looking sonar - for piloting in Bahamas and shallow areas of the ICW.MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL: In addition to the Voyage provided rigging, boom derrick and four anderson (one electric) winch, the Shearwater has been augmented with true cockpit-controlled single line reefing. This reefing system permits pushbutton (to the electric winch) reefing from any wind speed up to about 50 knots. Between 50 and 60 knots, we have added a hanked on jib to the stay-sail - and have made good progress in winds up to 65 knots or so. At that point, we have added an 18' parachute with 600' of lead to stop the boat and wait for the storm.DECK & HULLS: The hulls and decks are original - with new bottom paint in 2004 and a general polishing in 2004. There are no blisters. The Voyage-supplied Lofrans windless has been replaced with a more powerful Lofrans Tigress - mounted higher and further aft in the anchor locker to make the chain fall truly automatic. Controls are led back to a cockpit anchor remote.SAILS & RIGGING: The main, jib, and storm jib are original with their last service in 2004. We have added a Doyle cruising spinnaker as of 2001.OTHER: The Shearwater has a unique, fully enclose cockpit with an all stainless steel frame and a white polypropylene ceiling. It is cool, raised 6" from the Voyage height, screened, and protected in the front with a Lexan window that remains clear in most conditions. Clear vinyl protect the sides and provide front vents while screens and clear panels are provided for the rear. Easy roll-up storage, easy entrance and exit. The Shearwater also has a Magma grill suitable for the largest party. A 6 gallon per hour quiet d.c. water maker provides sufficient water for daily showers and laundry - true cruising luxury. The Shearwater has a 16,500/18,000 heat/cool air conditioner that runs UNDERWAY via twin 200 amp alternators, a 3kW Prosine Inverter, 900 Ah of AGM batteries, and completed upgraded wiring. The unit runs several hours per charge and will run indefinitely when motor-sailing without noticeable load on the engines.COMMENTS: Not quite ready to buy or just looking? Want to gain the knowledge that only your first long cruise can provide? For a unique partnership offer. We will share the Shearwater for 6 months/year in several 6-week increments - requiring only the first and last month's payment to start the partnership and 2-months notice to end. For about $2,000/month, you can have half of a well maintained cruising cat, all the instruction you want or need, and transportation to the cruising port of your choice, i.e. the Med in the Summer and the Virgin Islands in the Winter. You pay 1/2 the fixed costs and you're operating costs during your time.
