LAYOUT & ACCOMMODATIONS:
The interior layout provides two double private cabins aft and one twin cabin forward. The aft berths are large and there is plenty of locker space for clothing and possessions. The forward twin cabin has two berths, one above the other. It is ideally suited for children although the bunks are large enough to take adults comfortably.
There is a completely separate bathroom forward in the starboard hull containing the toilet and bathroom areas.
The main living area in the center of the yacht extends across almost the full width. The cabin style provides full headroom right almost across the full beam of the yacht so that access in to the hulls is easy with no stooping. The center of the cabin is fitted with a large dining area. Windows are fitted all around making for a light airy cabin.
The main saloon seats eight people and has a saloon table (which can be made extendible) and it is also possible to convert this area for extra sleeping if required. A convenient shelf surrounds the saloon - ideal for books, TV, Hi-fi, fruit bowls etc.
Galley position is in the main saloon.
The starboard hull amidships contains a large navigation area or additional single berth and storage area.
The sheltered helm position adjacent to companionway to the main saloon and windows is provided across the bulkhead in front of the helmsman providing excellent vision through the cabin forward due to the careful consideration given to the frontal area of the cabin and side windows. By using transparent drop-down plastic screens on either side of the overhanging cockpit roof the helmsman is protected from sun, wind, rain and salt spray. This system works very well on looks. "DEGUELLO" and designs 85 & 95 and those who have experienced sailing with this protected cockpit, especially on extended offshore passages, would never go back to steering in an exposed cockpit. While one has to look through two windows forward, only the forward window gets obscured by rain or spray, which is no different from steering from any other enclosed helm. Over the top vision is available through a transparent sliding overhead hatch when tying up to wharves or navigating in crowded waters when unimpeded 360 degree vision is required.
One of the most striking features of this design is the large functional cockpit allowing room for a cockpit table for outdoor living under cover even when underway in fresh conditions. The "T" shaped outboard extensions at the cockpit aft allow the crew excellent unimpeded access to the winch position, vision of the sails for trimming, with all crew work to be carried out away from passengers along for the ride.
Accommodation is exceptional for a catamaran if this size, but what really sets this yacht apart from the pack is its remarkable performance under power and sail. One of the features which is responsible for this performance is the careful positioning of the forward wing deck with minimum area forward of the mast allowing optimum hull shape with fine entry forward at the waterline rising to the now famous hull flare of the offshore range of Crowther Catamarans not before available in a catamaran of this size.

MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL:
There is no doubt that the best arrangement for a catamaran is twin shaft drive diesel engines mounted low down in the hulls with their weight as near to the center of buoyancy as possible to keep the ends light for maximum comfort and performance in a seaway. Two 15hp diesels are recommended for this catamaran and will provide good motoring performance due to the sophisticated hull shapes developed by the Crowther design team. Feathering or folding propellers are suitable for drag reduction with the cost difference determining the final cost benefit choice, fixed propeller installation would undoubtedly detract from the amazing performance potential of this yacht. Range under power of approx. 500 miles at approx. 8 knots is expected.

DECK & HULLS:
The construction is all foam sandwich using rigid PVC foam cores of various thick nesses and triaxial, biaxial and uni-directional fiberglass impregnated with vinyl estex resins for the skins and structural bulkheads. Extensive use is made of vacuum bag technology for much of the structure and this results in a vessel of lighter weight, better performance and payload and superior longevity. This type of foam core construction has the advantages of a much higher strength to weight ratio, built in insulation and buoyancy and a remarkably long life.
The engineering of the hulls in a very thick foam allows a rib free interior to provide a very stiff and strong structure with major bulkheads strategically located to integrate in obtrusively with the interior layout. It is then possible to complete an interior finished in modern paints directly on the inner skin resulting in a low maintenance, airy and mildew-free boat. This specification results in a superior boat at the expense of a more expensive shell cost which can in some measure be recovered by using the modern clean, maintenance free interior described. The shell's strength is provided by triaxial fiberglass lay-up outside and inside as standard. The inside lay-up is a major factor in the strength of the whole yacht and a kevlar inside skin laminate option is offered (as we provided on the designer's own yacht). It not only has the advantage of almost impenetrability but has much superior strength in the tension loads this area experiences and is lighter as well.
Note how the topsides flare fairs into the deck chamfer reducing windage to improve upwind performance yet allowing safe and easy forward access from the cockpit to the foredeck. The alloy fore-beam with "A" frame pelican striker and alloy catwalk with open weave bow nets enclosing the between bow areas make an ideal safe foredeck work area for sail changing and spinnaker launching or just lounging about. Twin lockers are provided either side of the mast deck which, in addition to containing the anchor warp and chain are used to stow the tails of the mast halyards. The anchor winch position allows easy deployment and retrieval of the anchor in all conditions.
Hull and overall design configuration:
As stated, the overall concept of the boat is an extension of the concepts developed for the larger offshore designs such as the designers own catamaran "DEGUELLO" a design no.150. also built for Lock by Capricorn Hi TechYachts in Gladstone.
The seaworthiness and performance are obtained from the relatively wide overall beam, efficient easy handled sail plan, and especially developed hull lines. In this design the hulls are canted out at the bottom to provide the effect of increased stability without increasing weight. The hull shape has been developed to provide maximum efficiency while providing a high degree of pitch dumping a serious shortcoming in many other designs. The fine entry with the flare in the topsides of the bow sections of the designers later designs provides for a very comfortable motion and remarkable up-wind speed. The considerable compound flare in the bows ensures the boat will not bow-bury on reaches or when running down steep waves. Many other design catamarans have extremely fine bows which may be satisfactory to most conditions but can be extremely dangerous in severe offshore conditions especially when reaching or running.
The forward raked dagger boards minimize induced drag and provide for optimum lift drag ratio of hull and dagger board combination. The non-tapered dagger boards can be partially retracted without exposing the slot in the bottom of the hull and causing increased resistance. We recommend when motoring in shallow water that the dagger boards be left partially down so that if the yacht is run aground, the boards can be retracted allowing the yacht to be safely backed off without damage. The extensive reinforcing of the center board to hull joint which ties the centerboard with the hull length keel ensures that the centerboard will rip before damaging the hull should the worst happen. The small intrusion into the hull is a small price to pay..........
Watertight bulkheads are provided at each end of the hulls and additional built-in buoyancy is provided under the forward floors.........

SAILS & RIGGING:
The highly efficient but simple rig features a modestly pre-bent and raked mast with fully battened main and small reefable jib for optimal efficiency. This rig design minimizes sail handling and stowage as well as the expense of numbers of headsails and headsail changing on older masthead designs. With lazy-jacks on the mainsail it is very easy to take in a reef when necessary with three reefs in the mainsail plus a single reef in the jib cover 99% of all sailing conditions without having to change sails. A high quality headsail furler is highly recommended for the cruising sailor. For those requiring maximum performance particularly in light off-the-wind conditions an asymmetrical spinnaker can be set flying from a permanent fixed pole. This sail is very simple to set and control and improves performance in a wide range of wind strengths and directions.
