DECK & HULLS:
Hulls are vinylester
resin impregnated fiberglass mat reinforced with Kevlar. All beams and bulk
heads are unidirectional glass. All surfaces are divinycell cored except for
the keelson area which is thick and fiberglass reinforced. All windows are
5/16ths safety glass hatches are Weavers except 2 hatches that face forward
which are Bomar reinforced with thick Lexan and a metal strut down the
center.

OWNERS COMMENTS:
The
idea behind Canny Lass was to build a boat that sailed well, motored well
and was comfortable at the dock or anchorage.
The name Canny Lass means beautiful and clever woman and originates
from Scotland and Northern England.
She
sails very well and is comfortably fast.
She can point high with her twin dagger boards.
She motors quickly with twin 100 hp Yanmars.
She has at least 100 hp more than most catamarans her size.
She will cruise efficiently at 8 knots on one engine for about 1000
miles.
However
above all she should be safe and strong.
Safety
was the primary goal given to the designer Brett Crowther, who worked out
all the engineering stresses, kept his eye on the construction and worked
hand in hand with the builder Alwoplast of Chile.
Alwoplast has built many sailing and motor Catamarans.

Here
are some of the features.
Vinylester resin with
fiberglass mat of various weaves vacuum bagged for good resin penetration
over Divinycel. The hulls and
deck are all Divinycel. This
results in strength and complete insulation as well as contributing to less
weight. The keelsons are thick
solid fiberglass.
A sister ship rode up over a
large rock in the Chilean channels. A
bent prop and shaft but no structural damage at all.
These boats are very strong.
The furniture is all
Divinycel with beautiful mahogany veneers overlaid.
This saves weight. All bulkheads are unidirectional fiberglass which is
extremely strong. The interior
of the hulls are lined with Kevlar. This
prevents penetration that could occur without this safety feature.
Crash
boxes in both bows and sterns. 5/16”
tinted safety glass in all windows.
The engines are powerful and
provide safety when it is necessary to head into large seas against the
wind. They use a low
maintenance direct drive with very efficient Flex o Fold propellers.
The engine rooms are sealed from the interior.
In addition they are equipped with Walker Airseps.
There is no diesel smell in the living area.
She
has a full set of ST60 instruments and a 4 kw radar color / chart plotter
with 10” screen.
Canny Lass has a large
central protected steering station that is still out in the fresh air but
out of the rain and sun. All
four corners of the boat are visible from there.
Her Nav station in the salon has a repeater for all the ST 60
instruments, auto pilot and has all around visability.
The boat computer can be
connected to the instruments and radar chart plotter with a new Raytheon Nav
program if desired. This will
allow full watch standing capability in the salon.
The boat has a Sky Eye
tracker that will give you a picture of the weather 600 miles around you
from the NOAA satellites. In
addition there is an ICOM 710 that down loads weather faxes through the boat
computer and has all the frequencies for communications.
The
mast is a large strong section supported by oversized rigging wires and
large turnbuckles.
Compared to the South
African or French boats, she is overbuilt.
However she still performs well.
Her sail inventory includes
the main, jib and stay sail. There are two spinnakers.
One of which is brand new.
She is air conditioned with
a 8kw Fisher Panda generator. She has a Spectra watermaker and and fresh water electric toilets.
She is spacious and airy inside.
“Down below” is not a good description, as in the salon there is
total visability all around with large windows.
She has a large built in
freezer refrigerator with both 12 volt and engine driven compressors for her
cold plates. She has a large
spacious galley with good visibility all around.
She has a dinette area aft in the Salon allowing for great views all
around while dining.
She is stable and
comfortable at rest and very quiet at anchor with no wave slap.
Her cockpit is the perfect place to be for entertaining.
Canny Lass has a great
owners hull with large walk in closet in the bow.
A queen size berth with a view of the sky and forward.
A vanity area leading to a head with a hot water shower.
Aft of that is a stand up engine room that houses the generator.
The
starboard hull has the same forward berth and walk in with a central head
leading to a queen sized berth in the guest cabin.
When you have to leave her,
going ashore in the 13 foot Aquasport dinghy powered by 25 hp Yamaha is easy
as it will transport 6 people on a plane.
Getting into the dingy is simple as the stern platform is close to
the water. Unloading your
supplies is equally as easy on your return
Canny
Lass is the perfect boat for those looking for a spacious, comfortable
performance catamaran.
