My wife and I have been sailing all of our lives, when we retired to Florida's west coast in 1994 we had a 40' Freedom sloop and spent our first winter in the Exumas and then on to the Caribbean. We came to the conclusion that we preferred the Bahamas and it was a logical step to go to a catamaran, which also suited the skinny waters of SW Florida.

Over the next 5 years we had 2 cats and spent the winters cruising Florida and Bahamas. 2 years ago we realized we were not doing a lot of sailing and started to research power cats. It was not a rewarding search, from flawed hull design to builders with only 3 boats built, or unboaty appearance. We nearly bought one New Zealand built boat only to discover the stuffing box was under the engine. We continued to read boating mags and discovered an Australian boat. After much research on the web we found that Scimitar Marine had built 26 of their 36 footers, many of which were in charter service on the Great Barrier Reef. It won the boat of the year award in Australia when it was launched in 1995, so with that many boats built we figured they probably had it right.

We had certain requirements, 2 helm positions, large open cockpit for fishing, large, non sloping windows forward that could be opened, and most of all that it looked like a proper seaworthy boat, from a side view it could be a trawler.

Luckily we had an Australian friend who located a marine surveyor who went through the boat, the factory, boats in progress ( they just launched hull 31 ) and produced a very comforting report, a copy of which may be seen at 2 Hulls, and we made the decision to buy sight unseen.

We have not been disappointed in any way, the boat sips fuel, does not slam or slap and is remarkable in the way it just ignores head seas of 4 to 5 feet. It is dry at speed except when taking wind and waves off the bow. We liked the full length keels which protected the props and allowed us to slide up the beach. Technically the boat could be described as a semi-displacement hull form. She has been stored out of the water during the summer of 2003 after being launched in Lauderdale early Dec.2002. Pacific High was newly anti-fouled when re-launched this Spring and as far as I can tell is totally de-bugged.

We are finally moving ashore and are currently buying a house in the West Indies, we cannot afford both (says my wife) so at a saving of around $150,000 over the price of a new boat she is regretfully for sale in immaculate condition, hopefully like a new boat.
