IKE is a unique aluminum power catamaran with hydrofoil. A luxurious three cabin design built to luxury standards with Hamilton jet drives. A very large aft deck allows complete access to water for professional diving and fishing. This yacht is for the serious yachtsman and family or guests whose primary concern is with stability, safety, speed, quality, shallow draft and comfort. Designed to have lots of forward reserve buoyancy in its symmetric forward sections and reduced wetted surface with its asymmetric hull aft. The high wing deck clearance of 36" gives a quiet ride with minimal slamming and eliminates the common "sneezing" associated with catamarans. This could be a great charter vessel. IKE is a different breed of cat!IKE's owners have lived aboard while cruising from Washington State to Panama. They are making the trip to Fort Lauderdale for the purpose of selling IKE and purchasing a larger powercat.
OWNER'S COMMENTS:
This is an awesome sea boat, riding smoothly and efficiently no matter what the sea conditions. This is a luxury performance 55' catamaran with over 1000 horsepower. This is an amazing sport fisher that reaches good speeds - it goes 30 knots with the twin 570hp Cats. The jetdrives can stop the boat from 20 - 0 knots in over a boat's length and helps move the boat sideways into a slip in it's own length. One can motor right up to the beach and tie the boat up in knee deep water because of the shallow 3' draft. Foil assisted, IKE's hulls are lifted reducing wetted surfaces as the boat accelerates making for a soft and dry ride. The boat can be driven from the flybridge in almost any weather. If you like your martinis dry, you'll love this boat - dryer than martinis.
EXCERPT FROM POWER MULTIHULLS MAGAZINE:
"When Dick Peery began looking for a new boat to take the head seas he was encountering in fishing trips (and when also looking for a permanent live-aboard built with long distance cruising comfort in mind that was tough enough to handle the rough east coast seas encountered while fishing offshore) ...., he sought a powerboat which would ride smoothly and efficiently no matter the weather. Having owned several boats, some of which he had taken to the Bahamas, Peery needed a boat which could handle lengthy trips to the Panama Canal, Honduras, Cuba, the Bahamas.... even Spain.'A monohull tends to pound in a head sea,' Peery explained. 'I chose this cat because it drives with less power and a smaller engine...'
The IKE has an overall beam of 20', with a draft of 2'0". With a 53,000 lbs. displacement, three decks, and two ...diesel engines, this multihull cat utilizes a revolutionary design which takes the best features of symmetrical and asymmetrical hulls.
A symmetrical forward section is balanced by an asymmetrical section which forms the major part of the hull. At lower speeds or rough sea, when the bow is partially submerged, the vessel's directional stability is determined by the forward symmetrical section, and is therefore as good as any other symmetrical type hull. However, the vessel still has the benefit of high efficiency due to the main part of the hull being symmetrical. At higher speeds, when directional stability is not a problem anymore, the forward section of the hull is clear of the water, and efficiency is not influenced by it.
The IKE's hull has a high tunnel ceiling with a large opening between the sponsons, which allows free movement of wind-waves without slamming on the wet-deck. Horizontal steps on the inside of the tunnel walls act both as chines to deflect green water from the hull surface, and to break up the solid water into spray.
The cat is particularly soft riding, due to the vertical inside shape of the sponsons, which reduces the planing area, minimizing the vertical acceleration forces. The height of the wake produced by the hull is much reduced as compared to conventional monohulls, due to lesser wave-making resistance of the long, slender sponsons.
Another key component that sets this design apart from others is a hydrofoil between the two hulls. This foil provides a significant amount of lift, which reduces the amount of drag.
Low resistance necessitates less power and therefore less fuel to attain a given service speed. Ensuring that all systems are simple to run and easy to maintain further reduces running cost. Every choice on IKE's manufacture, for example, hinged on ensuring lower operating costs. The owner implemented features like a honeycomb interior paneling and cabinets to keep weight low...
IKE is a comfortable and attractive cat, featuring three staterooms (one master and two guest). Beautiful cherry trim and luxurious upholstery give the boat a warmth and class that invite long trips. A roomy, well-designed cabin practically guarantees that friends and family members will be speaking to each other when the journey ends. Peery included air conditioning in light of his intended tropical destinations, but not heating (a decision which made a Christmas time stay on the boat in Northwest Washington a bit chilly)."
