Layout & Accommodations
This is a perfect cruising yacht for the Chesapeake Bay. The deck layout and interior accommodations and equipment provide the space and conveniences to ensure pleasant cruising and elegant entertaining. The stability of the catamaran provides comfort for your guests and crew, and negates the old warning that anything left out loose will end up on the deck. My wife, a white-knuckle sailor, is perfectly at ease on Kick Back up to 35 knot winds. We usually don't start securing stuff sitting around the cabins until the wind approaches 30 knots and we start reefing the sails.
The large cockpit provides spacious accommodations to spread out and enjoy cruising, as well as a comfortable gathering area for guests to party and relax. The broad solid foredeck is another favorite of guests on board while under sail or lying at anchor. We call this area the "Beach", especially when we have guests relaxing in our six beach chairs or stretched out on their beach towels on the sand colored "AwlGrip" nonskid deck.
The size and design of the Victory 35 is large enough for graceful living and cruising, yet it is still small enough to tuck into those shallow unique gunk holes and coves. The shoal keel also allows you to shorten cruising distances by transversing the many shallows of the Chesapeake. The sixteen foot beam is a special advantage for a catamaran in the Chesapeake in that it allows access into many marina slips and travel lifts unavailable to other catamarans with broader beams.
The Victory 35 was designed with live aboard comfort in mind. Only 28 of these unique vessels were built before the corporate owner of the design went out of business. Several Victory 35 owners live aboard part or full time. We and our dog lived aboard Kick Back all summer while refurbishing our home. The "Cruisair" air conditioning system made living aboard pleasant all through that hot summer. The bright and airy main salon is luxurious with its teak and holly floor, hand-crafted joinery, and louvered doors. There is 6'4" headroom throughout, and continuous bronze-tinted windows offer 180-degree panoramic views from the bridge deck which contains the salon and full galley. The salon area incorporates an L-shaped upholstered dining alcove with two movable upholstered stools with internal storage compartments, an entertainment center area, nav station, book case, liquor cabinet, wrap-around shelf under the main windows, and entertainment storage cabinet with teak louvered doors.
Integration of the U-shaped galley as part of the salon allows the onboard chef or galley slave to be part of the ongoing social activities in the salon and cockpit. The galley is equipped with double stainless steel sink with a separate faucet for a "Seagull IV" drinking water purification system, double-burner propane stove, "Panasonic" microwave oven, toaster oven, spacious "Norcold" 120v/12v upright refrigerator/freezer, and lots of above and below counter storage cabinets.
Within the hulls are a master cabin and two guest cabins with two queen-size aft berths and a full-size berth forward. Berths are oriented fore and aft, providing much greater comfort in a rolling sea than berths laid out athwart ships. The private master cabin in the starboard hull features a queen-size "Sleep Number" bed by "Select Comfort" with pillow-top and dual firmness controls, ample hanging locker and shoe locker with louvered teak doors, and storage drawers. Also located in the starboard hull is a separate compartment containing a "Jabsco" electric flush toilet, big full shower with custom hand held shower nozzle, and storage locker. A large vanity with mirror and medicine/storage cabinet is located just aft of the head/shower compartment. The separate guest cabins in the port hull include an aft cabin with another queen-size "Sleep Number" bed by "Select Comfort", and hanging locker and shoe locker with louvered teak doors. The forward cabin on the port side contains a full berth with storage cabinets below, and another ample hanging locker. The port hull also contains a full vanity with storage beneath and an additional hanging locker.
Seven opening deck hatches with screens, plus ten opening ports with screens, provide light and air below in any weather and any climate. The two forward hatches are equipped with solar powered "Nicro" vents. The hatches above the salon and the aft cabins are equipped with canvas hatch covers that match the bimini. This is a boat in which everyone on board has plenty of space, plenty of privacy, and unbelievable comfort. |

Deck & Equipment
The hull is an asymmetrical design with only a 2'10" shoal draft. It has a fixed box keel under each hull and twin balanced spade rudders. Not only does this hull design work well in the water, it also makes it easy and simple to block while in dry storage.
The cockpit has an ergonomic seat for the helmsman, wide enough for two to sit together comfortably. Cockpit seating, which wraps around the port, aft, and starboard sides of the cockpit, can accommodate up to eight guests, and maybe more if they are really friendly. The helmsman seat and cockpit seats are all equipped with snap on cushions upholstered with weather and mildew resistant material. The cockpit is equipped with a removable pedestal table and four bulkhead mounted folding stainless steel drink holders. A large storage locker is incorporated under the helmsman seat and a smaller one is built into the seatback on the starboard side. The aft cockpit seat swings up for access to the hydraulic lift pump for the Sonic Cat Leg stern drive, as well as other electrical and mechanical equipment. The two panels which form the cockpit deck can easily be lifted and removed for access to the diesel engine, drive coupling, and upper end of the Sonic Cat Leg. Access to the salon from the cockpit is via a tinted bi-fold Lexan companionway door with a sliding tinted Lexan hatch overhead.
The helm station position affords a clear view of the entire deck and allows easy communication with crewmembers during docking and sailing, as well as joining conversation and fun with guests onboard. The helm station is equipped with a stainless wheel, steering control arm for the Sonic Cat Leg, engine controls and panel, compass, "Raymarine" navigation instruments and autopilot, "Garmin" GPS chartplotter, windless control switch, electric self-tailing winch for the mainsail halyard and sheet, self-tailing jib winches, and reefing control lines.
The large solid foredeck provides a large stable platform for crew to handle docking lines, sails, anchors, etc. Built-in steps lead up to the salon roof for access to the mast, boom, and mainsail. A large forward locker is accessed via a large hatch in the middle of the foredeck. This locker provides storage for the anchor rode, propane tank locker, holding tank, and still has plenty of space for other essential sailing equipment. The stern has a crossover walkway and built in transom steps to the water line on both hulls and a fold-down swim ladder on the starboard hull. A transom shower is built into the stern steps on the starboard hull. |
Sails & Rigging
The simple, powerful rig has a full-battened mainsail with lazyjacks. The genoa is roller furling. The traveler is conveniently aft of the cockpit, out of the way. All halyards, sheets, and reefing gear lead aft to the cockpit for effortless single-handed cruising. Lines are controlled by two self-tailing winches, an electric winch, and sheet stoppers. Raising the mainsail with the electric winch is a breeze. The main sheet is also controlled with the electric winch. The genoa is easily furled or reefed with the furling line led to the helm station. The mainsail guided by the lazyjacks drops smoothly into the integrated mainsail cover, which can be zipped closed when you are ready to stow it at the end of your sail.
